If You Ignore High Blood Pressure It Will Kill You - Is That Your Plan?

high blood pressure

Did you hear what I just said...

Here's an absolutely amazing fact about people with high blood pressure or hypertension in America. The American Heart Association estimates that fully one third of people diagnosed with high blood pressure, that's roughly 20 million people, ignore it. They do nothing to treat their condition. They don't take high blood pressure medication, they haven't adjusted their diets and they sit on their butts and continue to live a sedentary life style.

High blood pressure kills 50,000 people each year and is a contributing factor in another 300,000 deaths.

So where do you fit in with all this?

If you know you have high blood pressure are you taking the wait and see approach to address it? Wait and see, as in wait and see when you will croak. If you do nothing, and assuming you aren't killed in an accident, your HBP and the lifestyle that brought it on are odds on favorites for being the cause of your demise.

But wait a minute, that's not you is it? You're on blood pressure medication aren't you? All you have to do is pop a pill or two every day for the rest of your life. Problem solved. Or is it?

If you still haven't made changes in what you eat, if you still think of housework as exercise, and if you still haven't managed to deal with the stresses of the job or finances or family; then those magic pills are going to need to be beefed up. What that means is because you are doing nothing to alleviate the cause of high blood pressure, your medication dosage is going to have to go up and probably will involve the addition of another drug or two.

Is your liver ready for that? How about your wallet?

And then there's this little thing called side effects. All that medication can come with some nasty side effects that can range from the annoying to the dangerous. Be sure you talk to your doctor each time a change is made to know what symptoms to look out for. Occasionally, medication designed to slow down the heart to lessen the pressure can work too good and actually stop the heart.

Right about now you are probably wondering "Why me God". Well the answer is because you don't take care of yourself.

Think about this for a minute. How much longer do you think you can go on the way you are? What is your relationship like with your family, your friends, and your work associates? Is it the same, or is it different. What about your outlook on life? Is it as optimistic as it used to be?

So what to do?

Imagine that it is two weeks from now and the doctor takes your pressure reading and discovers you have dropped 20 points! How great would that be? Pretty awesome right?

Well you know you can do just that if you want to. And you can do it without drugs. The American Heart Association says drugs are useful only when diet and exercise fail. Treat yourself to a healthier life and you can cure your blood pressure problems for good. Your heart will thank you.
